How to publish an Android App in Google Play store. The complete Google play store publishing process Explained.

Some of the new Android developers will be having their developed android app ready with them. But they might not be familiar with the publishing process of the app in the Google play store. This article is for those people.
In this article, I'll be explaining steps involved in Google play Publishing, right from Developer console account creation, till publishing. Let's begin.

1. Creating a Developer Console account.

• You will need a Play store developer console account for publishing apps. This is a one time purchase from Google. You will have to pay $25 (US Dollar) to Google to create a developer account for your Gmail ID.
• Just visit this website - Signup for Google Play Developer Account
• Accept their 'Terms & conditions' and click 'Continue to payment' as shown in the picture.

• Payment method accepted are Debit/Credit cards with international transaction support. (In India, most bank's Debit cards won't work as it isn't eligible for International fund transfers. However, Some Debit cards of Newer banks like ICICI, AXIS might work. I personally used CITI Bank credit card for purchase)
• After the payment is complete, You'll be asked to Enter some information about yourself. Fill all  those and complete registration.
• Now you will be taken to Developer console Home screen. This is how it may look like.
  

2. Adding a New Application

• Once your account creation is successful, Now it's the time for publishing your first application.
• Click on 'Create Application' at the right top of the Developer console home screen (as shown in picture above).
• You will be asked about the Language of the application, and it's Name. Fill it. Then click on 'Create'.
  
• You will be taken to a new page to fill some information.

3. Upload Your application (APK file)

• In the left pane, Click on 'APK' and you'll see a screen like this.
  
• Click on 'Upload your first APK to production'. You will be asked to browse your signed apk file.

• Browse your apk file which you want to publish.
  
• It may take some time to upload your apk and process it.
  
• After uploading is completed, you'll see a screen like this. Now that app is uploaded, it's time for filling other information.
  

3. Store Listing.

Store listing is often considered as 'SEO' of Play store. SEO is nothing but Search Engine Optimization. The more effective you write the store listing, the more the chances that your app is listed in the search of Play store on specific keywords when users search. So Be careful to enter this part.

This part usually consists of

1. A Brief description of your app.
2. A detailed description of your app.
3. Developer contact info
4. Screenshots and App icons
5. Privacy policy of app
6. Content rating.

• Enter a Brief description, detailed description for your app. Brief description shall contain the idea of what your app is about. Detailed description shall contain the detailed information about what all features your app has. Enter these details in a standard way since this is going to effect the store listing for your app. Use More Keywords for better SEO.
  

4. Adding Screenshots of your app

Screenshots are often best used for describing the layout and design of your app. User can get impressed by seeing the Interface of your app. So adding screenshot can give your app a grand shot. 

There are certain constraints for this.

1. A High Resolution app icon for displaying in the play store. Minimum dimension 512px.
2. You must include at least 2 general screenshots of your app. Minimum dimension 320px, maximum dimension 3840px.
3. The maximum dimension of your screenshot can't be more than twice as long as the minimum dimension.
4. Minimum 1 screenshot of each 7 inch and 10 inch tablets must be included.
5. A Featured graphic to serve as a banner for your app while viewing the app in mobile play store app.
6. If you are supporting Android TV, at least 1 screenshot of it must be included.
7. If you are supporting Android Wear, at least 1 screenshot of it must be included.

So do all these screenshot uploads.

• If you have any introductory video of your app in YouTube, you can include the link of it.
• Next, Select the category for your app. (includes App type, Category, content rating) select all of them accordingly.
  

5. Adding Developer Contact details.

Add these to let users to contact you in case they want to discuss any information with the developer. You can also add your Website link here. You can also add a link to a page containing the 'privacy policy' for your app.

6. Content rating

This is the rating of your app usability. This tells who can use your app. You can restrict children from installing this if your app contains adult information.

Select 'Content rating' pane from left menu.

• Click on 'Continue' to add a content rating badge for your application.
• You will see a screen where you are requested to enter your Email address and to confirm it. Do it.
  
• Select Your app category accordingly now. Select from the defined set of categories in that screen. See image.
  
• Once category is selected, You will be asked some questions about your app. Read them and answer 'Yes' or 'No' accordingly.
  
• After all the questions are answered, Click on 'Calculate rating'.
  
• Review the rating they just calculated and click on 'Apply rating' button.
  
• You will see a content raring badge like this.
  
• This part is done. Now proceed to Pricing and distribution.

7. Pricing & Distribution.

This is the phase of setting a price to your app or letting it for free installation. But remember that once selected and published decision about paid or free, can not be changed again in future. 

• Select accordingly. If you want to release this as a paid software, you will need to create a Merchant account for your Developer account. You will be guided with on screen instructions.
• If you are releasing it for free, Select 'Free' option.
• Also select the Countries in which you want to release your application. See image
  
• Chose whether your app displays Advertisements by any third party ad servers.
  
• Next, Abide by the US rules of Uploading and exporting of an application, and also check whether your app meets content guidelines of Google Play publishing policy. (Both Mandatory)
  
• Click on 'Save Draft' option to save all the entered information.
• That's it. All the basic information is submitted now. Time to publish.
• Check whether all those mentioned in the image below are completed (shown by a green tick mark).
  
• Before publishing, make sure all information are correct. If yes, then Click on 'Publish app' which is found at the right top of the screen.
• That's it. Now it's the time to wait for approval by the Google Play team.
  
   
• This may take 5-6 hours. After which, you can find your app in the google play search.

[Tutorial] - How to create a bootable pen drive (using command prompt)

For installing any new Operating system in your PC, you will be needing a bootable disk containing its setup. If you are using the purchased version of the OS, you will get the bootable DVD drive from the seller itself. If you plan to install from the ready made .iso file that you already have, then you have to manually create a Bootable disk drive for the installation. Since read/write speed of the CD/DVD is lower, its better to prefer Pen Drives. (because they have great read/write speeds and they can be re used too).  Of course you will get many softwares in the web to do that. But its always fun to learn how things are made, from the scratch. This tutorial is going to be about how to create a bootable USB drive.

Things you will need: 

• A pen drive of size capacity greater than the OS you are going to install
• The .iso file of the OS.

Steps to follow:

• Insert the pen drive in to the PC. (make sure to Backup every data of the pen drive, because you are about to format it now)
• Type 'cmd' in search bar of your windows and hit 'Enter' to open the command prompt. (see picture below)

• Type 'diskpart' in the command prompt and hit 'Enter'. This should open up 'Disk part' application (see picture below)

• Once disk part is opened up, type 'list disk' here and hit 'Enter'. This will show all the connected disk drives to the PC. The first disk (disk 0) is the PC's internal hard disk. Make sure to not mess up with Disk 0. Find your disk in the list (identify by the size) and note down the label of it. (See picture below)

• Select your disk by typing the command 'select <your disk label>' and hit Enter. [For example, if your disk is 'disk 1'. Type 'select disk 1' and hit Enter]. (see picture below)

• Once selected, clean your disk drive by typing the command 'clean'. This will clean up your device. (see picture below).

• Now create a primary partition by typing 'create partition primary '. and hit Enter. (see picture below)

• Select the partition by typing 'select partition'. (see picture below)

• Now format this partition by typing 'format fs=ntfs quick'. This will perform a format of your drive's primary partition with file type 'NTFS'. (see picture below)

• Make the partition as active by typing 'active'. This will make your USB drive as active while booting the PC. (see picture below)

• Work is done. Type 'exit' and hit Enter, to exit the disk part and do the same in command prompt to exit. 

That's it, you have made the USB drive as bootable. Next step is to make it an installation drive for any OS that you wish to install.

1. Extarct the Operating system setup files out of its .iso file using any archive manager. 
2. Copy the extarcted contents into the Bootable USb drive that you have just created. (not inside any folder).
3. Reboot the PC with the pen drive installed and follow these steps.

[Tutorial] - How to remove arrow from the shortcut icons (in windows)

In windows OS, at the left bottom of the shortcut icon, there will be a small arrow indicating that it is a shortcut to some directory in your hard disk. Even though they are smaller in the latest version of windows, they do not actually look attractive. Some PC Owners may hate it and even want to remove it. So here is the trick for the same.

Removing those small arrow just requires a small change in the windows registry. These methods should work in windows 7,8.x and 10.

Editing the registry:
Yes! you can do the editing of windows registry to add a new value to it and change the shortcut icon's property, without having to download any additional files. So Lets get started.

Disclaimer:
Since registry editor is a powerful tool in windows, and messing with it by putting wrong values to fields that you don't know, can result in misbehavior of your windows OS, for which i shall not be held responsible. Follow the exact steps below for safe editing.

Actually this is a simple trick that anyone can do. 

Follow the steps given below: 

1. Open the search bar of your windows. Type 'RUN' and hit enter.
2. In the 'run', type 'regedit' and hit enter. (see the picture provided below) 

3. Grant the administrator rights for regedit. Then you should see the registry editor opened up.
4. Now here, browse to this exact location 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\  

5. Look through the Explorer directory's keys and find for a subkey named as 'Shell Icons'. If there isn't such key, then create a key by right clicking on 'Explorer'. Name it as 'Shell Icons'. (Enter the exact name, case sensitive). 

6. Now create a 'String value' in the 'Shell Icons' by right clicking on it. And name it exactly as '29'.
7. Double click on '29' and enter the 'value data' exactly as follows (see the screenshot below): 

 
"%windir%\System32\shell32.dll,-50"  

8. Click on 'OK'. 

9. You will need to restart (or Log Off and then log back On) the PC in order to see the changes taken place. 

Thats it. arrow must be gone by now.  Like this,

If you want the arrows back,
Then just delete the '29' value that you just created. and restart. (If you really want the ugly arrows back)
